DESCRIPTION:he Haagse Mug invites you to join the English spoken presentation ¨A´carbon neutral´ economy: strategies to (de)politicize the climate debate¨ by Joanna Cabello\, activist and researcher at the World Rainforest Movement. \nMore and more people\, movements\, NGOs and groups are calling for a global economy of ´zero emissions´; an economy that is ´carbon neutral´; a new ´green deal´ for nature. They call upon their governments to make\nstronger commitments to halt climate change\, stop deforestation and prevent further biodiversity loss. They also demand corporate and financial actors to do the same. All of this sounds appealing. \nBut what does a ´carbon neutral´ or ´zero emissions´ economy actually mean? What are the strategies and interests behind these wordings? And most importantly\, what are the implications of common people and\nmovements’ demands? What are these demands really standing for and who is benefiting and loosing from them? \nIt is a crucial moment for reflection: How can we best contribute –and not obstruct- to the transition towards a real change in today’s destructive economy? And how can we strengthen our solidarity with\nmovements around the world?

DESCRIPTION:On Friday the 31st of January\, at the end of the Shell Must Fall Everywhere action week\, XR and Code Rood did a peaceful action at the headquarters of Shell In Den Haag. During this action everyone was arrested. Among the arrestees was Sandra. Sandra was the one who poured a biologically degradable substance which looked like oil on the stairs (for which we had a cleaning crew standing by\, but they were also arrested) and because of this she is being persecuted heavily. She was detained for more than 48 hours and no she has to go to the court on the 10th of March. \nWe are of course in solidarity with Sandra. This is why we call upon everybody to support her and be present during the court case! \n \nWrite this down in your agenda: Tuesday March 10\, 15:00\, court of Den Haag. SAVE OUR SANDRA! SUMMARY:2.Dh5 Festival - Defeating Dystopia?
DESCRIPTION:The fourteenth edition of the yearly 2.Dh5 festival is coming to BAK basis voor actuele kunst\, Utrecht on 1-2 February 2020\, with the theme “Defeating Dystopia?” \nSociety is being disintegrated by ecological\, economic and social crises and the extreme right and techno-dystopian reaction to these developments. For the oppressed and exploited our current reality is already a dystopia. Nonetheless\, if current trends continue\, as seems to be the case\, this situation will only deteriorate further. \n“The probability of apocalypse soon cannot be realistically estimated\, but it is surely too high for any sane person to contemplate with equanimity.” ― Noam Chomsky \nDoes this realisation mean we should toss aside our hopes for a free and caring world? Raymond Williams wrote: “To be truly radical is to make hope possible\, rather than despair convincing.” But is it not naive to hold on to hope when we acknowledge our current powerlessness to change anything fundamental about our trajectory? Is the dream that ‘another world is possible’ not exactly that: a dream? Should we not be looking for a new way to continue the struggle while retaining our dignity? Look the future straight in the eye and scream into the abyss: “Bring it on!”? \n“Well of course I get depressed sometimes\, yes I do.” ― Angela Davis \nAt times\, this feeling of powerlessness can become overwhelming and paralysing. We aim to prevent this by tackling this feeling head-on and discussing it collectively\, to break open the taboo that surrounds it. We hope this will have a liberating effect\, and inspire us to continue the struggle\, no matter the odds. \nBecause if there is hope to be found\, we will find it in resistance. In the struggle. It is there that prefiguration of radically different futures and fleeting utopias take shape. Besides\, far from everyone has given up hope. From renewed interest in Afro-futurism to the commons\, post-work and even fully automated luxury communism; hopeful ideas abound. \nNext to the theme “Defeating Dystopia?”\, the festival will host several dozen workshops\, discussion and talks about strategies\, in depth exploration and action around feminism\, queer\, anti-racism\, anti-fascism\, de-colonisation\, anti-militarism\, international solidarity\, climate/ecology\, labour & class struggles\, migration/no-border\, internet freedom/privacy\, right to the city/gentrification and all their intersections. \nFrantz Fanon wrote: “Each generation must\, out of relative obscurity\, discover its mission\, fulfill it\, or betray it.” Despite everything\, we are the generation that will determine the impact of the current crises. Despite greater public awareness of the dangers\, our leaders do not heed the urgency of the scientists’ warnings and instead pursue ‘wealth’ rather than ‘well-being’. \nThis presentation will explore the dysfunctional ‘operating system’ of global society. The hope of future generations depends upon remedial action. Thus far\, societal response to the warnings issued by scientists and spiritual leaders has been inadequate for the task at hand. The human-induced ecological stressors will be discussed in light of our collective blindness to the existential threats and the urgency of action before collapse becomes inevitable. Er zal een pendeldienst vanaf station Heerenveen worden opgezet voor vrijdag en zondag. Bij voldoende interesse zal er een bus rechtstreeks vanaf Amsterdam gaan.\nWe willen graag dat men vrijdag om 18 uur op de locatie is. Tot 20 uur is er een maaltijd. Om 20 uur begint het programma.
