They call upon their governments to make\nstronger commitments to halt climate change\, stop deforestation and prevent further biodiversity loss. They also demand corporate and financial actors to do the same. All of this sounds appealing. \nBut what does a ´carbon neutral´ or ´zero emissions´ economy actually mean? What are the strategies and interests behind these wordings? And most importantly\, what are the implications of common people and\nmovements’ demands? What are these demands really standing for and who is benefiting and loosing from them? \nIt is a crucial moment for reflection: How can we best contribute –and not obstruct- to the transition towards a real change in today’s destructive economy? And how can we strengthen our solidarity with\nmovements around the world?

In a time of escalating climate crisis\, the coalition argues that incremental adjustments to Shell’s operation are not going to bring about the necessary changes for CO2 reduction\, environmental restoration or community and worker compensation. It is time to think bigger. \nWhat they are suggesting is nothing short of a ‘Green New Deal’ applied to an oil giant. Nevertheless\, the German government supports coal power stations and continues the expansion of the biggest lignite coal mines of Europe; the Garzweiler and Hambach mines in the Rhineland near Cologne\, just 30km over the border with the Netherlands. \nTo expand these coal mines\, fertile agricultural land and centuries old villages such as Manheim\, Keyenberg\, Borschemich\, Immerath and Morschenich are continuously being evicted and destroyed. The last remaining part of the unique 12.000 year old Hambacher Forst is also in danger of being cut down. The people who have been occupying the forest to protect it are being violently harrassed by the police. This needs to stop! \nSo what can you do? This evening we will inform you about the possibilities for you to join the Ende Gelände mass civil disobedience actions against coal infrastructure that will take place between 19 and 24th of June this year. Together we can make a difference!
