DESCRIPTION:We call upon everyone to join us to remember the Ogoni 9 who were executed on the 10th of November 1995 and to demand accountability from Shell for its complicity in this atrocity! \nProgramme: \nWe will gather at 11.00 a.m at the Koekamp in The Hague ( https://goo.gl/maps/25SNey84davdSsoG8 ). We will give a short briefing and walk from there to the location where we will honour and remember the Ogoni 9 and the hundred-thousands of Ogoni people suffering from Shell’s oil extraction. \nDresscode: We ask everybody to dress in black; formal clothes are preferred. \nThe story of the Ogoni 9: \nKen Saro-Wiwa\, Presente!\nBarinem Kiobel\, Presente!\nSaturday Dobee\, Presente!\nNordu Eawo\, Presente!\nDaniel Gbooko\, Presente!\nPaul Levera\, Presente!\nFelix Nuate\, Presente!\nBaribor Bera\, Presente!\nJohn Kpuine\, Presente! \nShell has been waging a lethal ecological war in Ogoni land since 1958 when it first discovered oil reserves in the area. The oil exploitation has been concentrated in the coastal plains terraces to the north of the Niger delta\, which is home to the Ogoni people\, an ethnic group numbering 500\,000 people. \nMore than 900 million barrels of oil of estimated value 30 billion US dollars have been mined from the area since the discovery of the oil reserves. 96 oil wells connected five oilfields which were mostly operated by Shell and where gas has been flared twenty-four hours a day for more than thirty-five years. Between 1976 and 1991\, over two million barrels of oil polluted Ogoniland in 2\,976 separate oil spills. \nIn 1990 the Ogoni began to powerfully resist the destructive intervention of the oil industry and the Nigerian dictatorship in their home\, where despite of the stupendous oil and gas wealth of their land\, they were confronted with environmental degradation\, political marginalization\, economic strangulations particularly marked by an unemployment rate of over 70 percent\, slavery and possible extinction. What became known to as the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP)\, with Ken Saro Wiwa as its leader\, issued the Ogoni Bill of Rights (OBR) in which they demanded (a) the right to self-determination as a distinct people in the Nigerian Federation; (b) adequate representation as of right in all Nigerian national institutions; (c) the right to use a fair proportion of the economic resources of their land for their development and (d) the right to control their environment. This was followed by a massive peaceful protest in which 300\,000 Ogoni men\, women and children marched against Shell’s ecological war and the Nigerian government’s denial to the Ogoni of all rights in January 1993. \nThe protest was followed by an extremely violent crack down on the movement by the Nigerian government and Shell whereby over 1\,000 Ogoni people were murdered and 30\,000 people displaced. The conflict eventually culminated in the execution Ken Saro Wiwa along with eight other Ogoni leaders by the Nigerian government. \nMore than 24 years have passed since then but despite international protests\, no justice has been served to the Ogoni people as they continue to live in a state of crisis! While oil production has ceased\, pipelines operated by Shell still traverse the land\, creeks and waterways. Leakages – caused by corroded pipelines as well as bandits – mean that the area is still plagued by oil spills to this date. The Nigerian Government officially launched a clean-up programme in Ogoniland three years ago; however\, communities are still waiting for emergency measures to be taken and clean-up to begin. \nWhile Shell admitted that its oil operations have polluted large areas of the Niger Delta it resists charges of complicity in human rights abuses. However\, confidential memos\, faxes\, witness statements and other documents released in 2009\, clearly show the company regularly paid the military to stop the peaceful protest movement MOSOP against the pollution\, even helping to plan raids on villages suspected of opposing the company. Moreover\, Shell continues to undermine democracy and feed into corruption in the country by engaging in rigged trade deals with the government that serve business’ interests rather than the welfare of the people #OPL245. \nThis year\, 4 widows of the Ogoni 9 were finally able to bring Shell to court for its role in the murders. We stand in solidarity and support Esther Kiobel’s demands who fought for over 20 years to bring Shell to court in order to serve justice to her murdered husband Barinem Kiobel and the other Ogoni 9. We demand that Shell is brought to justice and pays reparations for the damages done\, including cleaning up the mess that has been left in the Ogoni land. But more than reparations we demand that such an atrocity will never happen again! \nThey tortured and murdered for oil\nOgoni People not Forgotten\nShell Must Fall!

We can not just stand idly by while they do this! \nOn Tuesday the 15th of October we will have dinner in De Nieuwland in Amsterdam Oost. At 1900 there will be food. Then at 2000 we will have a SHORT meeting to get to know each other\, check what people want to do (and put time and energy in)\, and maybe we can discuss a couple of action proposals. Then after this short meeting\, those who want to can subtly distribute some propaganda (put stickers\, paste posters\, …). \nA short fact sheet on biomass stations: \n\nensure horrible air quality\,\nadd to the destruction of the living environments of the original people living on the land where they cut the forests\nadd to the global deforestation\nadd to the loss of bio diversity\npump in more CO2 than coal power stations!\n\n  \nThere is a lot of local resistance to this biomass station. Such as by Comite Schone Lucht (committee clean air) and Code Rood Amsterdam.

SUMMARY:Blok voor klimaatrechtvaardigheid en systeemverandering
DESCRIPTION:Tussen vrijdag 20 en vrijdag 27 september zal de eerste wereldwijde klimaatstaking plaatsvinden. Jongeren en volwassenen zullen in meer dan 100 landen de scholen en werkplekken verlaten om samen massaal de straat op te gaan. In Nederland wordt deze staking georganiseerd door een coalitie van grassroots initiatieven die oproepen tot decentrale acties op de 20e en om op vrijdag de 27e te staken en samen te komen in Den Haag. \nWij sluiten ons aan bij deze staking en roepen op om bijeen te komen in het blok voor klimaatrechtvaardigheid en systeemverandering. Omdat de klimaatcrisis slechts één symptoom is van een onhoudbaar politiek en economisch systeem. Een onderdrukkend systeem dat mensen tegen elkaar opzet en niet in staat is om klimaatverandering op een rechtvaardige manier tegen te gaan. Een systeem dat gebaseerd is op koloniale structuren van uitbuiting\, geweld en vernietiging\, dat al talloze levens eiste en nog zal eisen. \nZoals in Frankrijk de leus luidt: “Eind van de maand\, eind van de wereld\, zelfde systeem\, zelfde strijd “. Daarom: \nLoop met ons mee als je gelooft dat een meer rechtvaardige wereld mogelijk is!\nLoop met ons mee als je niet gelooft in verandering binnen het systeem\, maar in ontmanteling van het systeem.\nLoop met ons mee voor solidariteit met migranten\, (klimaat)vluchtelingen en tegen Fort Europa.\nLoop met ons mee als je gelooft dat we samen een strijdvaardige en intersectionele klimaatbeweging moeten bouwen om klimaatchaos te stoppen!

DESCRIPTION:Free the Soil is a campaign to expose the devastating practices and impacts of industrial agriculture and the major role this industry plays in the escalating climate crisis. \nFree the Soil is organizing a mass action and camp to denounce industrial agriculture and the synthetic fertilizer industry. The camp and action will most likely take place around the third weekend of September\, exact dates are still to be confirmed. \nASEED is supporting Free the Soil by organising collective transport to the camp from the Netherlands. Bring your laptop and smartphone to immediately start using these things! Liberate your mind from the tedious task of remembering unsafe passwords AND up your digital security all in one evening! Who wouldn’t want that? \nThis is part of a series of workshops on online security. Each evening will consists of two parts\, first there is explanation and assistance to help you use a tool to increase your online security followed by a discussion about the necessity\, use and effectiveness of the tool. \nDigital technology is everywhere around us. We use it to organize and communicate. Activists who are trying to change the status quo are targeted by government surveillance programs. This can be used for repression or stopping direct actions. But what are their digital weapons? Which tools can they theoretically use? And when are they supposed to be allowed to use them? This course will try to answer these questions and provide you with the tools to protect yourself and the knowledge how to use them effectively. \nThis first workshop will focus on setting up encrypted email with PGP\, so bring your laptop. Also bring your smartphone to install Signal. These are the first steps you can take to start communicating more safely. If you already use this it might still be useful to brush up on your knowledge and evaluate your device security. That’s why Ende Gelände is again calling for a mass action in June in the Rhenish brown coal area. Our action is an expression of determination: We will return to the pits until the last excavator stops and all villages remain! Everywhere!

DESCRIPTION:Gezamenlijke informatie avond van Fossielvrij\, Code Rood en Extinction Rebellion over politie & inlichtingendiensten en de klimaatbeweging. Voor klimaatactivisten die vragen hebben over wat de recente aandacht vanuit deze instanties voor ons betekenen. En hoe we daar mee omgaan. \nDe afgelopen maanden zijn zeker vijf klimaatverdedigers die actief zijn voor Fossielvrij\, Exctintion Rebelion en Code Rood benaderd door deels anonieme politie-medewerkers. Hun opdringerige vraag was: wil je voor ons spioneren in je eigen actiegroep en de klimaatbeweging? Zo’n onverwachts bezoek aan huis door de agenten die weigeren te zeggen wie ze zijn is intimiderend. Zeker omdat ze duidelijk laten merken wel alles van jou te weten. Heeft de inlichtingentak van de politie niets beters te doen dan burgers lastig vallen die zich in hun vrije tijd inzetten voor een veilige samenleving in de toekomst? \nOp onze websites lees je kort hoe de inlichtingentak van de politie ons heeft benaderd en hoe wij hier gezamenlijk en publiekelijk op reageren. Tot slot 3 tips over wat jij kunt doen als dit jou overkomt. Want ze zijn duidelijk ‘op jacht’. \n“Je bent ons positief opgevallen”\, zo begonnen de gesprekken met Femke en Bas en de klimaatverdedigers. Daarna kwam de vraag of we informant wilden worden. Of we een relatie wilden opbouwen om regelmatig informatie te delen over de klimaatbeweging. “Dat kan bijvoorbeeld op een bankje in het park. Dan spreken we af dat we oud-collega’s zijn.” We mochten met niemand over het bezoek praten. \nIemand van Extinction Rebellion werd benaderd in de bus\, op weg naar zijn werk. Iemand van Code Rood kreeg een brief thuis\, en werd in zijn voortuin aangesproken. Iemand van Fossielvrij kreeg onverwachts bezoek aan huis. Dit gebeurde allemaal in april 2019. Maar ook een paar jaar geleden is de klimaatbeweging benaderd en staat de klimaatbeweging genoemd in publieke documenten van de inlichtingendiensten als ‘aandachtspunt’. En werden rond onze actie in Groningen verschillende mensen benaderd. En we weten dat politie en inlichtingendiensten al tientallen jaren proberen om informanten te werven in actiegroepen. Het is hun standaard praktijk. \nAls de ze opeens op je stoep staat\, is dat op meerdere manieren intimiderend. Op persoonlijk vlak: er lopen mensen door je huis die je boekenkast scannen en je heel expliciet laten weten dat ze je Facebook strak in de gaten houden. In alle gesprekken werden onderhuidse bedreigingen gedaan. We weten wie je bent\, en niet mee werken kon wel eens consequenties hebben. Gelukkig staat binnen onze organisaties zorgen voor elkaar en solidariteit hoog in het vaandel. En dus hebben de mensen die benaderd werden niet gezwegen over deze nare gesprekken maar steun bij mede activisten gezocht. En komen we nu met een gezamenlijk antwoord. \nWe vinden de aandacht van politie en inlichtingendiensten ongepast. Onze organisaties – Code Rood – Extinction Rebellion en Fossielvrij – brengen geen mensen in gevaar\, zijn transparant en open. Dat zijn noodzakelijke ingrediënten om uit te groeien tot de brede burgerbeweging die nodig is om de klimaatcrisis nog enigszins binnen de perken te houden. We zijn soms burgerlijk ongehoorzaam\, maar doen dat altijd met open vizier. Aan de andere kant zien we de aandacht van de AIVD ook als blijk van waardering. Blijkbaar is wat we doen zo effectief dat we een bedreiging zijn geworden voor de status quo. \nWe zijn een open beweging en precies dat maakt ons sterk. We zijn niet te stoppen\, zelfs als ze precies weten wat we van plan zijn. Bovendien is de klimaatcrisis te belangrijk\, we zijn niet bang voor de juridische risico’s die we soms moeten nemen. En om dat te benadrukken publiceren we vandaag samen met Fossielvrij en Exctintion Rebellion een gezamenlijke open briefin het NRC aan de inlichtingentak van de politie. NRC publiceerde ook een eigen artikel. \nTips: Wat moet je doen als je wordt benaderd door politie of AIVD? \n1. Ga niet in gesprek of kap een lopend contact af\nHelaas zijn dit soort benaderingen door politie of AIVD legaal in Nederland en gebeurt het regelmatig. We raden iedereen aan om niet met ze in gesprek te gaan en het gesprek af te kappen zodra je weet waarvoor ze komen. Ben je op hun ‘aanbod’ ingegaan en heb je toegezegd mee te werken? Stop er mee. Het is je recht om het gesprek en het contact af te kappen en dat heeft geen juridische gevolgen. Hoe langer je praat\, hoe meer ze je onder druk zullen zetten om door te gaan. En daar zijn ze vaak niet zachtzinnig in. \n2. Praat erover\, wees open\nHebben ze je (ooit) benaderd? Of ben je al in gesprek met ze? Vraag om hulp. Bijvoorbeeld bij Buro Jansen & Janssen. Zij zijn de ‘watchdog’ van de Inlichtingendiensten. Desgewenst houden zij jouw identiteit anoniem. Praat er ook over met je mede-activisten. Het is niets om je voor te schamen\, het kan iedereen overkomen. En omdat het een intimiderende ervaring kan zijn\, moeten we iedereen die dit is overkomen helpen. \n3. Word niet paranoia\nWaar we ook voor willen waarschuwen is paranoia. Ja\, soms hebben we iets te verbergen. Zeker als we burgerlijk ongehoorzame acties plannen. Maar te veel geheimzinnigheid of wantrouwen naar nieuwe mensen gaat ons alleen maar in de weg staan. En dat is precies waar de ze op uit zijn. Kom naar de publieke hoorzitting in de Tweede Kamer over de corruptiezaak van Shell❗ \n \n\nOp maandag 17 juni vindt er een hoorzitting plaats in de Tweede Kamer en de vier organisaties – The Corner House\, HEDA\, Re:Common and Global Witness – die onderzoek hebben gedaan naar vermeende omkoping door Shell in Nigeria met betrekking tot de koop van het enorme olieveld OPL 245 gehoord. Senior managers van Shell – waaronder de voormalige CEO Peter Voser – wisten dat er steekpenningen zouden worden betaald om de deal rond te krijgen. Dit is een ander schandalig voorbeeld van de misdaden die Shell heeft gepleegd en die werd ondersteund vanuit het hoofdkantoor in Den Haag.\n\n\n \n\n\nHet is nog onbeslist of het Openbaar Ministerie Shell zal vervolgen en de optie voor een schikking ligt nog steeds op tafel. We steunen de coalitie en vinden het in het algemeen belang dat er een rechtsproces komt waarin kan worden blootgelegd hoe en waarom Shell betrokken was bij zaken als deze.\n\n\n \n\n\nWe doen een beroep op het parlement om het bedrijf kritisch te bekijken en Shell ter verantwoording te roepen. Het is onze plicht om op te komen voor gerechtigheid.
