This week, we disrupted the Flame conference in Amsterdam\n &#8211; Europe\u2019s largest conference on natural gas \u2013 in an action called \n\u2018Flame over\u2019. Gas is not a transition fuel. It is a dangerous fossil \nfuel that should stay in the ground, just like coal. &nbsp;During\n the upcoming months, we call for more actions against fossil giants in \noil, gas and coal. On the 21st of May, we will attend Shell\u2019s annual \nshareholders meeting to make a statement on our new campaign Shell Must \nFall. &nbsp;In June, we will travel again to Germany\u2019s coal \nmines again to join the mass civil disobedience actions of Ende Gel\u00e4nde.\n Join us! In this newsletter we explain how!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>21 MAY SHELL ANNUAL GENERAL SHAREHOLDERS MEETING <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year in May, shareholders of Royal Dutch Shell meet in \nScheveningen (The Hague), for the Annual General Meeting (AGM). During \nthe AGM they discuss the Annual Report and agree on plans for the \nfollowing year. Together with the board of the company, shareholders \nfulfill a series of legal duties and carry on their destructive \nbusiness-as-usual.<br><br>Due to the endless efforts of countless \ndedicated people around the world, every year, the opposition to Shell \ngrows faster than their profits:<br><br>\u2022 In what has been described as \n\u201can unmitigated defeat for big oil\u201d, Shell abandoned its controversial \ndrilling operations in the Arctic in 2015 &#8211; thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/greenpeace.international\/\">Greenpeace International<\/a>and other groups.<br>\u2022 Currently Shell is facing several historic lawsuits for its horrific crimes against humanity and nature (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hashtag\/ogoni9\">#ogoni9<\/a>&nbsp;&amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Klimaatzaak\/\">Klimaatzaak<\/a>).<br>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/GBBGroningen\/\">Groninger Bodem Beweging<\/a>&nbsp;and\n the people in Groningen who suffer the consequences of gas extraction \nare standing up and were supported by a mass blockade of NAM\/Shell \ninfrastructure organised by Code Rood last year. <br>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FossilFreeCultureNL\/\">Fossil Free Culture NL<\/a>&nbsp;has succeeded in liberating several institutions from Shell sponsorship.<br>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FossielvrijOnderwijs\/\">Fossielvrij Onderwijs<\/a>&nbsp;Den\n Haag defeated Shell in its home base, forcing the company to move its \ngreenwashing festival &#8220;Generation Discover&#8221; out of The Hague. <br>\u2022 And just last month our comrades from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ExtinctionRebellionNL\/\">Extinction Rebellion NL<\/a>&nbsp;occupied and glued themselves to the Shell headquarters in The Hague.<br><br>It\n seems to us like the time is ripe for an all-out offensive against \nShell and for climate justice. Code Rood will mark this 2019 shareholder\n meeting by launching its 2020 Declaration, to be delivered both inside \nand outside the AGM. And it is becoming a tradition by now: Code Rood, Groenfront! and \nASEED organise the Dutch participation in Ende Gel\u00e4nde. We are \norganising busses and action trainings ahead of the action. The busses \nwill depart on Wednesday (19 June) and Thursday (20 June) in the \nevening, most likely from Amsterdam, Utrecht and Nijmegen.
