Shell Oil Strike (1973)

In 1973, the Shell Oil Strike became the first national strike for health and safety in the US, taking on one of the world’s most powerful corporations. At 5 oil refineries and 3 chemical plants, 4k workers went on strike, demanding better health&safety conditions.

The strike was supported by a broad coalition of environmental, health & community groups. Workers+supporters set up picket lines to ensure the plants remained shut. After 5 months, Shell was forced to settle with the workers.

In 1973, workers, farmers, and environmentalists showed that it is indeed possible to make Shell fall! Let us ensure their resistance is not forgotten!
