Dear people,
It’s been a little more than three weeks sinds our last newsletter, so it’s time for some updates! Read on further for more information on what’s coming up, such as the climate march in Rotterdam and and Code Rood action conference 4; and on what’s happened these last three weeks, such as the resistance against the gas extraction by the NAM and the 2Dh5 festival.
1. COME TO THE ACTION CONFERENCE
We want to continue and strengthen the resistance against the NAM during the Code Rood action on and around August 28th. That’s why the next action conference: Enough = Enough will take place on March 17th. The location and the exact program for the will be announced a week in advance. Everyone is more than welcome to come! It doesn’t matter if you’re checking out Code Rood for the first time or you’ve been active with a working group for longer. Sign up for the action conference using this link, and invite your friends to the Facebook event
2. THE RESISTANCE AGAINST THE GAS EXTRACTION
The fight against the NAM, Shell and ExxonMovil continues. On February 21st, people have mobilised to hold them accountable for their injustice in court. The NAM, however, referred to the “complexity” of the case, refusing to take any responsibility. This, again, confirms that it’s time for action!
The NAM has, in the meantime, also continued their search for more gas extraction locations at Schiermonnikoog, all the while what they should be doing is phasing out gas! Greenpeace has, fortunately, been able to put up a fight with their occupation of the platform. Do you think that gas extraction at the Wadden Sea is unacceptable? Sign the petition!
And on the same day that people occupied the platform, other activists organised a blockade at one of Shell’s petrol stations in Groningen. The activists have heard more than enough of Shell and ExxonMobil’s narratives. A powerful action!
3. CLIMATE MARCH FOR A COAL-FREE ROTTERDAM
On February 21st, the port of Rotterdam decided to prolong the contact with the coal company EMO with another 25 years. This would mean that the largest point in European coal infrastructure will support the fossil fuel industry for at least 25 more years. This is, of course, not an option! Businesses and politics are not assuming any responsibility in fighting this climate destruction. In resistance, a climate march will take place in Rotterdam on March 9th! Come one, come all!
4. 2Dh5 FESTIVAL
Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of February the 2Dh5 took place. A very successful and fun weekend which provided the opportunity for a variety of movements to get together and exchange information, ideas, strategies and skills. Code Rood also presented itself, which mobilised more folks! Check out their website for pictures and reports from the festival.
5. DONATIONS
Donations are always useful! The next action conference will also cost money, and so will the action camp. If can afford to, you can transfer donations to NL55 TRIO 0338 6023 80 (name: Steungroep NVDA). And share this call for donations with friends and family!
Love,
Code Rood
